Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce invites you to our Faces of Resilience virtual conference presented by Union Bank.  Trials and tribulations are a part of our life journey.  We cannot avoid them but we can learn and grow from them.  Becoming stronger and more resilient as we do so. 

Faces of Resilience brings together five women who have faced the trials and they will share their stories and successes.  Please join us for this empowering and inspirational conference.

Christina Sanchez

Vice President - AltaMed

Christina S├ínchez is the Vice President of Public Affairs at AltaMed and leads the oversight of all multi-faceted public relations and media initiatives. A two-time Emmy award winner and seasoned media and government affairs practitioner, Christina has over 25 years experience in broadcast media communications with an emphasis in Spanish language public affairs, social marketing, and project management. During her career, Ms. Sanchez previously served 12 years as Public Affairs Director for Univision’s flagship station, KMEX-TV, Channel 34 the leading Spanish-language television station in the country.


Judge Maria Lucy Armendariz

Los Angeles Superior Court

Judge Armendariz presided over cases at the State Bar Court of California for over a decade.  Appointed to the bench in 2007, Judge Armendariz maintained a heavy docket of cases that included trials, motion hearings and status conferences.  Judge Armendariz was appointed to the Superior Court of Los Angeles in California under Governor Jerry Brown in October 2018 where she serves at the East Los Angeles Courthouse presiding over criminal trials.

Having committed her career to public service, Judge Armendariz served as Chief of Staff to the Senate Majority Leader and gained extensive experience at the Capitol in Sacramento.

Gina Zapanta, Esq.

Gina Zapanta-Alder is a co-founder and attorney at ZA Lawyers, a workers’ compensation law firm. In 2012, she founded the LA Center for Orthopedics, a concierge lien-based medical practice. 

In 2020, Gina co-created a partnership with world-renowned author and educator Stedman Graham to deliver his Identity Leadership program to inner-city students. She continues to develop strategic alliances between Stedman Graham Enterprises and the Latinx community.

Celebrity Chef, Nutritionist, Best Selling Author & Founder of Fresh Nourish

Laura Diaz, known as Chef LaLa, is an accomplished chef, cookbook author, food stylist, food consultant, certified nutritionist and motivated speaker. With her creative talents and training, this first-generation Latino dynamo is making waves in food, nutrition, health, and lifestyle in both English and Spanish language media.

Nora Guerra

Affordable Lending Manager - Freddie Mac

Nora Guerra is an Affordable Lending Manager with Freddie Mac focusing on Affordable Lending and Access to Credit. Mrs. Guerra works with lenders across the country by being a voice and advocate for underserved communities and minorities giving lenders a blueprint in order for them to offer affordable lending products to low to moderate income homebuyers nationwide. Nora analyzes market data to identify trends/opportunities and develops strategic direction from market information for first time home buyers across the country. 

Sylvia Castillo - Host 

Director, Foundation & Community Outreach  Officer - Union Bank

As the Director,Foundation and Community Officer for MUFG Union Bank’s

Corporate Social Responsibility group. She is responsible for building relationships with civic and business leaders, community-based advocacy organizations, and multicultural leaders throughout the communities that the bank serves. Additionally, Ms. Castillo directs initiatives that involve the bank’s Foundation, public policy, and community development efforts.
